Instagram as a Way to Promote Tourism: Australia and Canada. Are you planning a trip to another country? Do you know someone who is? Are you an Instagram user? If you answered affirmatively to these questions, you may find it useful to know that you can get information about your destination via Instagram. Tourism offices all around the world use Instagram to promote the monuments, landscapes and folklore of their countries.
Take @australia, for instance, Tourism Australia’s official account. With an astonishing 1.3 million followers, it’s the most followed touristic account on Instagram. No wonder why. Sunsets, amazing landscapes, charming, colorful pictures of the Great Barrier Reef, amazing kangaroos and koalas… you can find all that at this account. It doesn’t only post, but also reposts, content. You can collaborate with it tagging your photos – #SeeAustrialia and #RestaurantAustralia will do.
Another country promoted by its own Tourism Office is Canada
Although the Explore Canada account has “only” 184,000 followers, it is indeed a good way to discover the country. Again, wildlife and nature are a hot topic, but you also get to see some urban spaces – museums, iconic or significant buildings, touristic features (such as a stage-coach going through the old streets of Quebec. Regarding followers, Australia may win, but Canada has far more snow. Take a look at the pictures, and you’ll see mostly white, as snow gets featured in almost every photo. Even the aurora borealis gets featured, too. Again, you can collaborate if you want, using the hashtag #ExploreCanada.
So, whether you are planning to visit some other country or just like the way it looks, don’t forget to look up its Instagram account. Not every country has one, though, but if the one you’re interested in does, it’ll be worth taking a look. And remember you can collaborate with it, promoting it – and yourself – with your photos.
